We’ve all seen strange beauty hacks online—some look like magic, while others make us wonder, who even thought of this? From using a slipper as a makeup blender to applying Vaseline as highlighter, people try all sorts of things in the name of beauty. But do these tricks actually work?
One of the weirdest hacks out there is using a slipper to apply foundation. The idea is that the soft material acts like a makeup sponge. But let’s be real—slippers are not made for your face. They can be rough, dirty, and full of germs. Verdict? Not worth it. Just use a real beauty blender.
Kriti Bhardwaj, 19, a BBA student at Delhi University, once ran out of a spoolie and grabbed a toothbrush to comb her eyebrows. “It worked,” she says, “but my brows looked a little too neat—almost like they had a mind of their own.” While it’s not a total fail, toothbrush bristles can be rough on brow hairs. Use with caution.

Nandini Baluni, 20, an art student at the College of Art, tried using Vaseline as highlighter. “At first, my skin looked really glowy,” she says. “But after an hour, I looked super oily. My face felt sticky, and dust stuck to it.” The problem? Vaseline doesn’t dry down like real highlighter.
Nisha Sharma, 21, a psychology student at Chandigarh University, tested the frozen spoon trick for puffy eyes. “I put a spoon in the freezer and pressed it under my eyes. It actually helped a bit, but my face was so cold—I thought I’d get frostbite!” She laughs, “It’s a good trick, but maybe not in winter.” Works, but be careful.
Some beauty hacks are surprisingly useful, while others are just silly. The key is knowing which ones are worth trying and which ones will leave you regretting your choices. So before you apply toothpaste on a pimple or blend makeup with your slipper, ask yourself: Is this actually smart, or am I about to make a huge mistake?
