Summer is here—and while love may or may not be in the air, humidity definitely is. Stepping outside is like entering a pre heated oven. But if there’s one thing we all can agree to love (after AC at 18°), it’s summer fashion. Think breezy sundresses, tank tops, shorts, and oversized tees, where Gen Z has mastered the art of blending comfort with style, proving that even in peak sweating season, we can still serve looks. They’re not just melting into the streets; they’re walking the ramp on them.
“The best thing about summer is definitely sundresses- fun, colourful, cute; what more do I need ?” said Aditi Sharma, a 22-year-old Psychology Honours student at Mata Sundari College, Delhi. Aditi’s love for florals and colours is never-ending, and combined with sundresses, it’s a match made in hot girl heaven for her! Her picks? NewMe and Savana for around ₹900-1500 and sometimes, Sarojini Nagar in Delhi (if you can bargain without blinking!)
While dresses are definitely a fuss free outfit option, they may not be for everyone, or for everyday wear. Sakshi Mishra, a 20-year-old student at Amity University in Delhi, pursuing Bachelors of Business Administration, swears by the oversized tee plus denim shorts formula- cool, casual, unfussy. “It is my summer staple outfit- a safe option and still looks good. The trick is, to invest in good quality basics and accessorize.” A headband, a cool belt or layered necklaces can take your outfit to the next level- a tip from Sakshi. She mostly gets her clothes from brands like H&M, Zara and Westside. A denim shorts costs her around ₹1500-2500 and T-shirts for ₹800-2000. Her mantra is comfort over anything!

Abhimanyu Dravid, a 22-year-old graduate from College of Vocational Studies in Economics Honours shared that he would roam around in loose shorts and a tank vest everyday (we hear you, Abhi). “I usually prefer loose fit linen and cotton shirts or T-shirts with a pair of baggy denims.” Abhimanyu prefers to get denim jeans from H&M and Zara, and T-shirts from brands like Bluorng (when he is in a mood to splurge, starting from ₹3900) and The Souled Store(₹600-1100).
Gen Z’s summer aesthetic is summed up with somewhere between looking unbothered and being very bothered by the heat. Their summer wardrobe definitely revolves around the 2 Cs- cute and comfy. They flirt with trends while keeping the basics close. Few Indian homegrown brands that you can add to your collection this year are Koai (@koaiofficial), Basque (@basque.in), 17 looms (@17looms) and No nasties (@nonasties). Well we can say whether its 4 degrees or 40, youngsters definitely knows how to beat the heat, while still looking the part!
