Ever seen someone look super rich and stylish, only to find out they shop at street markets and budget stores? Looking expensive doesn’t need a big bank balance. It just takes smart styling, smart shopping, and knowing what works.
Shreya Kapoor, 20, a fashion design student at NIFT Delhi, swears by this. “People think I wear designer stuff. I don’t! I just style cheap pieces well.” Her biggest tip? Focus on fit. “Even a ₹500 blazer can look fancy if it fits you right. Tailors are your best friends.”
The next trick is colour. The rich rarely wear loud neons or glittery pinks unless it’s the Met Gala. Soft tones like black, white, beige, or navy always look classy. Tanya Mehta, 19, a BBA student at Amity University, Noida, shared, “I wore a white outfit with gold hoops and neat hair. Someone legit asked if I was royal,” she laughs. Monochrome outfits are simple, but always stylish.
Accessories also make a huge difference. Kriti Sharma, 20, a BCA student from Galgotias University, Delhi calls herself the “budget luxury queen.” She says, “You don’t need real designer bags. Just carry one that looks expensive.” Her go-to items are structured bag, clean sneakers or heels, and a plain watch. “Avoid flashy logos. Clean and simple always wins.” Finally, the best trick of all is confidence. “If you walk like you own the place, people won’t question your outfit,” says Kriti. Shoulders back, chin up, and wear everything like it was custom made for you.

But here’s the real deal-breaker is grooming. “No outfit can save you if your hair is greasy or nails are chipped” says Kajal Soni, a fashion blogger based in Delhi. She has over 85K followers on Instagram @kajalsoniii_. “I always keep my nails polished and hair fresh. Skincare matters more than heavy makeup,” she says. “You don’t need 10 layers of foundation. Just glowing skin and clean vibes.” Her secret is a simple routine, regular hair trims, and drinking water like it’s her job. “If you look neat, people will think your outfit is xpensive even if it’s from Sarojini Market”, she adds.
