Pinterest vs. Reality
Turning Pinterest boards into daily outfits sounded cute… until the Delhi heat, metro stares, and fashion regrets hit hard.

Model Ishita in cottage core aesthetic
We’ve all scrolled endlessly through moodboards, pinning outfits that scream effortless chic, cozy, or edgy street style. But what actually happens when you try to follow those styles every day?
“I thought I’d embrace the cozy cottagecore vibe with oversized cardigans, flowy skirts, and boots,” says Ishita Grover, 20-year-old, a fashion communication student at Pearl Academy, Delhi. “Trying it in the city was a challenge, people stared like I was headed to a fairytale forest. I got super hot, and my skirt was dragging on the Metro. Looks great online, not so much offline.”.“I love the bohemian looks on Pinterest like flowy dresses, layered jewellery, and earthy tones,” says Ishita. “But when I tried it floppy hat, statement necklaces, and all, I felt like a walking 70s music video. Too many accessories and a tangled mess by the end of the day.” She shared that she would try maybe a different outfit, definitely not for college though.

Minimalism is all about neutral tones, clean lines, and simple silhouettes. Annie Boro, 20-year-old, a fashion communication at Pearl Academy, Delhi, gave it a shot. “I went all beige blazer, trousers, and a basic tee. I felt like I was in an ad for wall paint,” she jokes. “The outfit does suit my style, but I don’t think beige is my colour, I prefer black. I did like this minimalist look, but would prefer it in different colour.”
Street style is all about layering and statement accessories. HimanshiMoondhra, 20-year-old, a fashion communication student at Pearl Academy, Delhi, decided to try the trend. “I went for a long trench coat over a hoodie, oversized jeans, and chunky sneakers. I looked like I was trying too hard, and my hoodie kept getting in the way. Pinterest makes it look easy, but it’s about more than just layering pieces together.”
“I was convinced Idid nail the sporty vibe with leggings, a crop top, and an oversized jacket,” says Paree Rastogi, 19-year-old, a fashion communication student at Pearl Academy, Delhi. “I felt like I was stuck between gym wear and streetwear. It was comfortable but didn’t feel like me. Definitely a case of ‘do it for the aesthetic.’’ By the end of the week, she was back in jeans and a graphic tee. “Some outfits look great in photos, but they don’t always work in real life.”
